Sunday, May 17, 2020 - Preston Memorial Re-Dedication Ceremony, 2 p.m., at the Greenfield Education Center, 57 S Center Dr, Daleville, VA 24083. This is part of the year long 250th anniversary (Sestercentennial or Semiquincentennial) Celebration for the creation of Botetourt Co., VA.
With regret, the SAR/DAR/Botetourt County team planning the May 17 ceremony to re-dedicate the Col. William Preston Memorial at Greenfield announces the cancellation of the event.
State-level leaders of the SAR and DAR were supportive and planned to attend, but the reality is that we must comply with government policies restricting large public gatherings to help address the coronavirus pandemic emergency.
We hope to re-schedule such a ceremony in the future when it is safe to do so.
Next Intended Meeting: Tuesday, May 19, 2020 - 7:00 PM (Social begins at 6 PM). Cost to be $40.00 by check made out to Fincastle Resolutions Chapter, SAR with a choice of Steak, Salmon, Chicken, or Vegetarian / Special Diet. John Cahoon will handle Reservations.
Our speaker was to be Dr. Robert ("Bob") Whisonant, Emeritus Faculty, Geology Department, Radford University. He was to share information on the importance of Western Virginia minerals during the time when the American Colonies fought for their independence. We will look forward to his talk in a future re-schedule.
