January 12, 2016 Board Meeting Minutes
 

Present, Lenart, Galer, Cutler, Howard, Coale, Cahoon, Poland, Miesen, Linton, Sheridan

 

Treasurer, Fulton Galer's report: 77 members paid dues.  Received $79.00 from Kroger. Operating fund balance 12,890.00. Preston Memorial fund $8,177.00. Scholarship fund $300.00. Read/Fleming $12,350.00. CAAH has $500.00 in budget, motion to send $500.00 to CAAH passed.

 

Cutler, Preston Memorial report, phase 1 paid and completed, when Steve Clinton's $1000.00 check is deposited, will have about $9000.00 in the restricted bank account for phase 2. Movement of building controversy continues. Agreed to establish account at the Bank of Fincastle for future donations. Lenart, motion to go forward using $2,000.00 for stone monument at Preston memorial, passed.

 

Cutler, contacted Roanoke City Clerk to arrange a proclamation honoring George Washington, will be read at 2 pm, February 16, 2016 at City Council meeting, requested members  to attend.

 

Poland, 2nd vice president, no scholarship applicants. SAR foundation selling pins, to be included in newsletter.

 

Lenart, motion to rotate Preservation Award plaque in libraries, permanent home will be in Virginia Room archives, passed.

 

Linton, registrar, Asa Hall grave marking received favorable comments from DAR, he has 1 completed application, working on 5 more, has several others showing interest, working on 2 supplementals.

 

Sheridan, 1st vice president, 22 February dinner meeting, sold 10 tickets, speaker will be Dr. Coogan. Working on schedule for July trip to Philadelphia.

 

Coale, immediate past president, poster and essay contest updates. Working with New River Chapter. Committee formed for Americanism report, audit committee forming, working on board nominations for next year.

 

Lenart, color guard formation information will be put in newsletter. Will contact staff at Smithfield plantation for further discussions.
